Water is a limited commodity and its consumption is increasing, yet 2 billion people in the world lack drinking water, in addition to the number of liters lost through mismanagement.

The five Rs rule should be applied to the circular water economy: reduce, repair, recover, reuse and recycle, as well as the use of the term “use” instead of “consumption”, which raises awareness of what it means to turn on the faucet. Currently, 25% of the water consumed is reclaimed: problems such as improper waste or leaks in public networks require improved management and awareness.

For industry, reclaimed water is more reliable than drinking water because, if the latter is in short supply, it runs the risk of stopping production. However, the harmful effect of many sectors, such as the textile industry, which is highly polluting because of its processes and the large volumes of water it uses, must be mitigated. The pollution of microplastics in the water that reaches the sewage treatment plant is also very difficult to manage and the EU is already working on their use (the United Kingdom has already banned them).

In order to obtain financing, business actions against climate change and care for the planet are becoming increasingly important: banks are requesting sustainability and water indicators, which are becoming more and more demanding, forcing companies to constantly evolve; Spain has the opportunity to make progress in sustainability with the 140,000 million it is going to receive from European funds, and water treatment cannot be left behind. Public and private collaboration, technology and a legal framework that supports it and facilitates investment are needed.

Thus, the axes for the improvement of water treatment lie in action and awareness: it is necessary to generate awareness so that society demands more action and regulatory acceleration; it is necessary to ensure the progress of future generations to avoid geopolitical problems. But above all, we must change the strategy from “solving the problem” to “anticipating the problem”, which implies anticipating. Anticipation is already a reality in many sectors, and requires measuring, processing, analyzing and taking action quickly, with as little bureaucracy as possible. Monitoring technology has brought the ability to take action in near real time. That is why it is important for public decision makers to understand that there is no room for bureaucracy in the efficient management of an increasingly scarce resource.

Nubeprint uses its network of data collectors to accurately monitor, check and measure the existence of circular economy procedures and print resource optimization, becoming an effective ally that allows your organization to achieve a neutral impact.

What technological advances will change the traveler experience or the airplanes themselves?

      1. Intelligent translators. Inner ear implants with nano-translators will be able to reproduce the voice and translate several languages in real time.
      2. Radio Frequency ID (RFID). Some airlines already use RFID tags that emit a localization signal with all the baggage data (destination, stopover, airline, owner, etc.), a process that will minimize baggage loss.
      3. (Super) portable devices. There are already smartphones that turn into desktop computers by connecting them via Bluetooth to a mini keyboard and a screen.
      4. Connectivity. There are airlines that offer in-flight internet on all routes, although it is still expensive.
      5. 3D printers. The cost of an airplane is very high, but, if printed in parts, the cost price would go down, something that will soon be possible.
      6. Biometric recognition. Facial recognition systems are currently being tested at several airports.
      7. Virtual reality. To help time pass more quickly on flights, some airlines offer first-class passengers virtual reality (VR) goggles.
      8. Autonomous aircraft. A.I. systems are already being tested that will be able to make flight completely autonomous, avoiding human error and the cost of pilots to airlines.
      9. Alternative fuels. Helium-3 (He3) will change the aviation industry, with the potential to be used as a clean fuel.
      10. Genetic engineering. It would allow the creation of superhumans who can live with little gravity or oxygen.
      11. Nanotechnology. Used in aeronautical engineering to achieve ultralight and stronger materials for airplanes.
      12. Synthetic biology. This is a branch that combines biology, engineering and computer science to modify DNA. In the future, it may also be possible to create pilots who do not need to sleep.
      13. Robotics. There is still no robot intelligent enough to serve as a flight attendant on an airplane. Interestingly, robo-phobia is a disorder in which a person has an irrational fear of robots and A.I.: Bill Gates and Elon Musk suffer from it; Stephen Hawking also suffered from it.
      14. Quantum computing. It allows manipulation of huge combinations of data at the same time, so a single computer could direct hundreds of planes at the same time and no human personnel would be needed in the control tower.
      15. Artificial intelligence. Seeks the creation of intelligent machines that behave autonomously like humans. When they have their own conscience and can reprogram themselves…. Will we be facing a future where we are controlled by machines?

Nubeprint invests 30% of its resources in R&D every year. With 5 patents registered to date, it is at the forefront of technological advances with its MPS solution (using algorithms and dynamic filters), Machine Learning (developed specifically for MPS) and the first and only DCA integrated in an application for cell phones (iOS and Android). All this so that companies like yours can build customer loyalty, optimize storage costs and offer an economically and environmentally sustainable value proposition.

It is estimated that by 2025 there will be 20 billion devices connected to the Internet. Efficient A.I.-based systems will analyze this compendium of data in exabytes (one trillion Gigabytes each) to convert it into useful information for companies regarding the consumption habits of their customers and equipment, such as printers.

Big Data was born with the idea of creating personalized strategies based on this data with the aim of better satisfying consumer needs by making intelligent decisions through A.I. It works thanks to specialized NoSQL databases that store data in a flexible way, making it possible to analyze totally different sources of information.

Every time we enter a website, activate the GPS, send a WhatsApp or connect to a Wi-Fi network we are providing a series of data that will be converted into useful information through Big Data.

This new technology allows a new source of revenue, as companies will know in depth the needs and the way their customers act towards products and services. However, many corporations get stuck in the initial stage of their Big Data projects due to lack of understanding and training, in addition to not knowing how to properly store this data or not selecting the best tool for the analysis and storage of this data. The data and its collection must be differentiated from the activity of processing, analyzing and using the information extracted from the data. Translated to the printing environment, the data would be the toner level indicated by the printer, and the information would be to know if that printer is going to need a new cartridge in a few days and whether or not that cartridge has already been shipped, in order to avoid sending a cartridge months in advance or duplicating its shipment.

Often the service derived from the data collected is generated and managed automatically. This is done for efficiency reasons, especially for recurring activities (such as sending a replacement cartridge). But in other cases, companies need to hire skilled data professionals trained in the field. This would be the case for using data to determine compliance with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) objectives.

What is Data Governance? It is the one that ensures that data is consistent and reliable and that it is not misused. A proper Data Governance program includes a steering committee and a group of data stewards.
A good example of how to take advantage of Big Data is the Netflix platform: it monitors what each user watches, analyzes their ratings, the media they use, their geographic location or the date of viewing. With all this information, it adjusts the complete profile of each subscriber.
Thus, due to the digital transformation, companies are faced with a large volume of complex data that cannot be managed with traditional software. Therefore, they need experts who know how to manage the data with advanced A.I. systems and, above all, how to analyze it.

Nubeprint developed the first engine with artificial intelligence (A.I.) for MPS in 2013, improved a year later for management optimization and implemented to this day (Nubeprint invests 30% of its resources in R&D&D). With its MPS-specific Machine Learning, machine learning algorithms use historical data as input to predict new values, always based on A.I.

Were all the authors right with their predictions? No, not all of them: for many of them we already know for certain that they sowed the seeds of a subsequent breakthrough decades in advance.

Aldous Huxley published his novel, Brave New World (1931), in which the characters took pills to forget their emotions, and it was in 1951 when scientists began to study antidepressants.
In an essay in the New York Times in 1964, Isaac Asimov introduces cars guided with “robot brains”, 50 years ahead of what would become the autonomous cars that Uber or Tesla already have in circulation.

Continuing with the world of cinema, video calls are being perfected: in Metropolis (1927) a first prototype appears; Space Odyssey (1968) shows us more sophisticated video calls; and in Back to the Future (1989) they were very similar to the Skype we use today.
The Star Trek saga foreshadowed the cell phone in 1966, a kind of Motorola that would not appear until 1983; the use of 3D printers to print food and everyday objects was also imagined.

Nubeprint is at the forefront of technological advances with its MPS solution using dynamic algorithms and filters, Machine Learning developed specifically for MPS and the first DCA integrated into a cell phone app (iOS and Android). Nubeprint has 5 patents registered to date.

By 2040, mobility is expected to be more sustainable, environmentally friendly and efficient. There will be no fossil fuel vehicles, which will be replaced by electric or hydrogen vehicles; intelligent streets and roads will facilitate safer transport with fewer accidents; there will be autonomous vehicles and shared use will be rewarded, as well as a public transport network that is compatible with the environment.

The implementation of charging points is now the workhorse to encourage consumers to change their vehicles, in addition to the high prices, which will tend to stabilize. Elon Musk’s Hyperloop, with low energy consumption and no polluting emissions, promises to become a revolution in the transport of goods; Uber, for its part, will launch its own shared air travel from 2023, in fact, it has already launched a tender for the implementation of its own urban airports. In Iceland, 90% of public transport is electric.

Thanks to artificial intelligence, we will have autonomous electric vehicles that will not need a driver, reducing polluting emissions and the number of accidents; likewise, the roads will be intelligent through 5G, allowing all kinds of notifications in real time and promoting the fleet of autonomous vehicles. The vehicle will soon be viewed as a service rather than an asset of personal wealth. Instead of spending most of their time parked, vehicles will be relentlessly picking up and dropping off passengers. And thanks to the electric motor having a lifetime of 1 million km, we will soon see the number of vehicles decrease in contrast to the population.

Nubeprint reduces the mobility of its employees to zero, with 100% of the workforce working remotely. With its grouped shipments App, it optimizes the delivery of consumables by fixing in a single day of the week all deliveries scheduled for the following seven days, avoiding repetitive displacements with the consequent savings in fuel and energy, being a clear precursor of sustainable mobility. It also maintains a strong commitment to sustainability by optimizing the use and replacement of consumables, as well as their recovery for reuse.

Technological advances that will change the future of the environment through the use of cleaner energy are a reality. Although many of them are still in the development phase, others are already being commercialized and their use will spread rapidly as we urgently need to take care of our ecosystem.

In the construction sector, the new non-polluting bricks (made from recycled paper and cardboard, sodium hydroxide, lime extract and a little clay) do not consume the polluting resources of traditional bricks and do not require firing. Some of them are already on the market, although they face the problem that the type of sand they need is becoming a scarce commodity (that is why only a little clay is used) and solutions must be sought. In this same section, the photovoltaic solar tiles that will allow the houses to be self-sufficient in electricity, complementary to the solar panels that can be placed depending on the location and orientation of the house, are also surprising.

Another new and curious device that can already be purchased is a plug that uses solar energy to generate electricity. It is placed in any window and takes between 5-8 hours to charge, providing a charging capacity of 1000 mA/hour.
Recycling and waste disposal is not lagging behind in terms of amazing inventions either: a machine is patented that converts organic waste into fertilizer and electricity, with a system of instant power generation from organic waste, providing a clear example of circular economy.

Nubeprint invented years ago, the App that allows remote monitoring of printers for the automated sale of consumables. It also maintains a strong commitment to sustainability by optimizing the use and replacement of consumables, as well as their recovery for reuse.

Which sectors are implementing 3D printing the most?

      1. Engineering – It allows the printing of spare parts for products or prototypes, gaining in autonomy and saving on costs without depending on external and distant suppliers.

      2. Architecture – Printing models instantly in a presentation is a differential value. There is nothing like presenting the project of a house in 3D so that it is tangible and the client can perceive the exact volumes of his future home.

      3. Medicine – The possibility of printing customised prostheses in a short space of time to treat patients is opening up. Molds will no longer be necessary, but rather definitive parts made of materials that are biocompatible with our bodies, manufactured quickly to avoid delays in delivery by the supplier, resulting in an improvement in the patient’s quality of life.

      4. Arts and fashion – For printing sculptures, jewellery, footwear, clothing, etc. Post-printing of the piece allows for adjustments and customisation of the product according to the specific needs of each customer.

      5. Space research – NASA has sent 3D printers into space with the idea of replicating spare parts for aircraft in record time. They would stop being manufactured on Earth and the astronauts would have the necessary material to print the part in space. We are sure that this service will soon be available in workshops.

The 3D printing market will turnover around $32.7 billion per year until 2023, with a growth rate of around 25% per year. The progressive reduction in the price of these printers, together with their technological development, will facilitate their implementation in all sectors and areas of life.

Nubeprint’s software monitors printers of all makes, models and types, including 3D, laser, inkjet, large format (plotters) and label printers. Our solutions enable printer dealers, cartridge and filament resellers to manage their cost-per-copy contracts and subscription-based consumables sales services.

      Did you know …….?

The video assistant referee (VAR) is the system used to assist the main referee in case of doubt in some transcendental play of the match (offside goal or not, possible sending-off, handball in the penalty area). Thanks to cameras placed on the field of play, a group of additional referees study the play with images captured from different angles.

When the images depend on the referee’s interpretation, we tremble: here again, the human factor plays a role and a similar play is not always assessed in the same way depending on the referee; intelligent boots are the footwear used by footballers to keep track of all their movements and performance. They have a sensor placed in the sole that allows to know the power of the shot and after the match, the sensors are connected to the computer to study the performance of each player, also allowing to obtain statistics of the team.
The smart ball allows the trajectory, speed and power of the ball to be analyzed, among other parameters. The installed sensor allows the recording of the shots to transmit them, although its main function is to determine whether the ball has crossed the lines of the field of play, as well as to know if it has been a goal or not by monitoring whether it has crossed the goal line. The referee, in turn, wears a watch that vibrates if it is a goal.

Technology is here to stay in every aspect of our lives, and soccer is no exception. The video assistant referee, smart boots and balls, as well as devices that monitor vital signs are just some of the advanced technologies used in the sport. Nubeprint has been combining data collectors and Machine Learning technology for 10 years, reducing waste in printing, helping to extend the life of printing equipment or enabling the full incorporation of the circular economy in our industry. Nubeprint technology has made available to all, a print fleet management that achieves financial savings by reducing costs, and reducing environmental impact. Nubeprint customers are probably today managing the most sustainable service of any industry.

The 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. workday as we know it is on its way out, at least every day of the week. HR departments have already detected that they have to move and respond to the needs of workers and future candidates if they don’t want to have problems when it comes to retaining talent or recruiting.

During the height of the pandemic, many were able to work 100% remotely. Once the health measures were eased, a large portion have remained under a hybrid work model, with 2 or 3 days of telecommuting per week. On the other hand, there is no job interview where the candidate does not ask about flexible work as another condition, in addition to working hours, salary or vacations. A company that does not allow this possibility, showing a rigidity that does not go with the times and that invites the candidate to look for other horizons, gives a bad image.

In the beginning, young people preferred telecommuting and seniors preferred going to the office. Now juniors realize that they need socializing and coaching. There is no doubt that going to the office has its advantages, but not every day.
On the other hand, flexible work also has drawbacks depending on who, such as the problem of disconnecting with the home office. Employees want flexibility, to be able to change their routines and adapt them to their lifestyle, which is why the hybrid model is the most desirable. It is also important to develop flexible work well: if a face-to-face meeting is organized, everyone must attend it, because if someone does it remotely, he or she will be isolated from the others and will appreciate a different treatment, feeling a frustrating experience.

Managers play a decisive role and must lead by example and know how to explain whether they go to the office or not, and how it should be perceived by the employee. If a manager goes to the office a lot, that should not mean that the employee should lose his or her right to work in hybrid mode.
The transformation to flexible work also affects company headquarters, creating new spaces for conferences and teamwork, seeking the exchange of ideas and moving away from the traditional office concept. There is a proliferation of events away from the usual headquarters to achieve new experiences for employees and facilitate personal interrelationships, whether they are “escape rooms”, go-karts or “paintballs”.

The Nubeprint App facilitates flexible working for any teleworker who needs a printer at home. By simply downloading the Nubeprint App on their cell phone, they will be monitored and will receive the consumables before they run out, being able to carry out their activity without any problem and without the unpleasant surprise of running out of cartridges at the most inopportune moment: Murphy’s Law is fulfilled with an accuracy that borders on the supernatural. At the same time that the remote employee has all the comforts to be productive at home, the company keeps control of printing costs exactly the same as for printers installed in the office.

The only way to take care of our resources is to think about sustainable cities that fit in with the environment. We are not only talking about green spaces, but also about minimizing noise pollution and recycling to avoid waste proliferation. Buildings will be designed to be energy efficient by taking advantage of available natural resources (sunlight, wind or rain).

Promoting a culture of sustainability is fundamental for the good development of future cities; Reykjavik is the European capital considered a model of energy efficiency, covering almost 100% of its demand with renewable energies. Located in the country of “the land of fire and ice”, the island is in a very active volcanic area that allows it to take advantage of geothermal energy; glaciers cover 11% of Iceland and their seasonal melting increases the flow of rivers that end up in the sea, boosting hydroelectric resources; wind energy, yet to be exploited, has enormous potential.

Stockholm is another of the most sustainable cities in the world thanks to its eco-neighborhoods, which are characterized by taking advantage of the shade of trees and planting gardens with native species. They also install solar panels on housing and use wood in construction obtained from forests under sustainability criteria. Singapore penalizes the use of private vehicles in favor of public transport or car sharing to reduce CO2 emissions. It intends to make 80% of its buildings environmentally friendly by 2030, in addition to having a woodland index of almost 30%, the highest of any city in the world.

In Latin America, Santiago de Chile is betting on connectivity to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants, becoming a Smart City with a significant investment in 5G. They will make smart homes a reality by reducing the impact of the carbon footprint thanks to the internet of things and artificial intelligence.

Nubeprint upholds its strong commitment to sustainability in both labor and technology. Employees work 100% remotely, saving fuel and reducing CO2 emissions to zero, and are fully aware of the Nubeprint App as they download it themselves so that their printers are monitored and never run out of consumables. Our customers reduce printing costs by eliminating waste, drive the circular economy of the cartridge and optimize the life of the printer. Working together, together we do our bit towards achieving neutral impact and along the way we learn how to reduce costs and gain productivity.
