Patents emerged to protect the intellectual property of creators on their inventions or imports of new products, driving innovation and technological development.
In the 15th century, Filippo Brunelleschi (1377-1446), the great Italian architect, obtained a special dispensation for one of his inventions, as he took special care over his designs so that other artists would not copy him. His most important work, of worldwide fame, is the dome of the cathedral of Florence, where he demonstrated his extensive technical and mathematical knowledge. For the construction of the dome, he needed machines and cranes to lift the materials, which led him to apply for the first patent.
He submitted to the government of Florence a design for transporting blocks of Carrara marble across the Arno River by means of a special barge (“Il Badalone”), with a huge built-in crane for loading and unloading. Brunelleschi, aware of the importance of the invention at the time, requested exclusive rights to the invention, to which the Florentine rulers agreed on June 19, 1421, under the condition that he would disclose his creation and that it would also be useful to the city.
The right to the patent was granted for 3 years and it was established that any ship that copied the design would be reduced to ashes. After three long years for Il Badalone to be launched, it sank off the city of Empoli on its first voyage, without being able to complete it: the first patent in history ended up at the bottom of the sea.
Nubeprint has 5 patents registered to date. In 2010, it developed the first MPS solution in the cloud and, a year later, the Managed MPS Solution with algorithms and dynamic filters.
In 2013, it created the first A.I. (artificial intelligence) engine for MPS, in 2017, the Machine Learning (ML) developed specifically for MPS and in 2018, it created the First DCA integrated in a smartphone application; this app allows monitoring the customer’s printer when the mobile is connected to the Wifi and the printers are on the same network, creating an alert when there is little load left of any consumable to replace it in time for the new one, achieving the ultimate goal, that the customer’s printer is never stopped.
