Printing is a need and has consequences other than in your pocket. Minimizing the environmental impact of printing depends on you as a user, and on you as a printing service provider. Here is some advice:
Track the cartridges: become responsible of the full cycle of each cartridge. Make sure you always know where each cartridge is until it is collected for afterlife processing. In addition, you’ll save 8% of the cartridges that in average get lost in the process of reaching the printer.
Circular Economy: most of cartridges can be remanufactured 3 to 5 times. Make sure you combine brand new with remanufactured cartridges.
The printer’s life is determined not by age, but by its capacity to satisfy the needs of printing of users. Replacing a printer because it is 4 years old increases CO2 emissions by the equivalent of CO2 emissions needed to produce the new printer + transportation + de-installation and installation + old printer disposal
